Cookies and local storage

This page explains exactly what this site stores in your browser, which is very little. There is no analytics, no advertising, no tracking pixel, no social media button that reports back, and no service that follows you from one website to another. What follows is the complete list, not a summary of the most important items.

The one value that is stored

When the notice about cookies first appears, you may accept it or decline it. Either way, a single value is written into your browser's local storage recording which button you pressed, so that the notice does not appear on every page you read. That value contains nothing but your choice. It holds no identifier, no name, no address and nothing that could be connected to you as a person.

Local storage is not the same as a cookie in one important respect: it stays in your browser and is never sent to the server with your requests. That means the site itself does not receive the value; it is read by the page in your own browser to decide whether to display the notice. If you decline, everything on the site continues to work exactly as it did, because nothing here depends on your agreement.

What is deliberately absent

There is no analytics service of any kind. No visitor counts are measured, no pages are tracked, no heat maps are produced and no sessions are recorded. There is no advertising network, no retargeting tag, no conversion pixel and no arrangement under which any other party is allowed to place anything in your browser through this site. Nothing embedded from elsewhere loads automatically.

There is also no login, no account, no shopping basket and no preference that needs remembering between visits, which is why the list above is so short. If a feature were ever added that required storing something further, this page would be updated to describe it before that feature went live, and the notice would be shown again so that you could make a fresh choice.

Technical records at the server

Separately from anything stored in your browser, the hosting service keeps an ordinary technical record of requests: the network address, the page requested, the time and the browser type. This is how every web server in the world operates and it is necessary to deliver pages and to notice a fault or an attack. These records are kept briefly and then overwritten automatically, and they are not used to measure or profile visitors.

These records are not connected to any message you send through the form, and no attempt is made to identify an individual from them. They are examined only when something has gone wrong, such as an error affecting the site or an unusual pattern of requests that suggests abuse. Nothing derived from them is published, shared or sold.

Changing your mind

If you accepted the notice and would rather not have anything stored, you can clear site data for this site in your browser settings, and the stored value disappears immediately. The notice will then appear again on your next visit, and you may decline it. Nothing is lost by doing this, since the value controls only whether the notice is shown.

You may also set your browser to block local storage and cookies for this site entirely. The pages will continue to load and read normally; the only effect is that the notice may appear each time, because there is nowhere to record that you have already seen it. That is an inconvenience rather than a fault, and it is a reasonable price for the privacy it gives you.

Fonts, images and embedded content

Typefaces and images used on this site are served from the same place as the pages themselves. Nothing is fetched from an outside service while you read, which means no third party learns that you visited, what you read or when. This is slightly more work to maintain and it is done deliberately, because content loaded from elsewhere is the most common way a simple website quietly leaks its readers to others.

There are no embedded videos, no maps loaded from another service, no comment system and no social sharing buttons. If a map or a video were ever added, it would be behind a click, with a clear explanation of what would load and who would then know about your visit, and this page would be updated first.

How this relates to the privacy notice

This page deals only with what is stored in your browser and the technical records kept by the server. What happens to the information you choose to send through the contact form, how long it is kept and what rights you have over it are described in the privacy notice, which should be read alongside this page. The two documents are intended to be consistent; if they ever appear to conflict, the privacy notice governs personal data.

Both are written to reflect the principles of personal data protection law in the United Arab Emirates, adapted honestly to the reality of a site run by one private person. Neither is a template copied from elsewhere, and both describe what actually happens rather than what a larger organisation might need to say.

Questions about this page

If anything here is unclear, or if you would like to know exactly what is stored in your browser after a visit, telephone the number on the contact page and it will be explained. You may also inspect it yourself: every modern browser has a developer view in which local storage for a site can be listed, and you will find a single entry recording your choice about the notice.

Should this page ever change, the change will be described at the top for a period so that returning readers notice it, and any change that increases what is stored will be accompanied by the notice appearing again. The intention is that nothing about this site should ever surprise you after the fact.
